The Best Place to Start: Slánú

Start with Slánú, her 2026 album. It has 11 tracks, and it is the most current picture of what she does: Irish folk roots, meditative texture, and songs built from folklore, dream images and myth. Its songs include "Healing Song," "Para la Tierra," "only tenderness between us," "Heartbeat," "Soften," "Dreaming," "From The Water," "Viento," "Para Sanar" and "only you know where peace is."

Listen front to back once, without doing anything else. If you only have time for one track first, try "Dreaming," which features Aisling Urwin and Rachel Sermanni. Several of the album's songs also came out as singles ahead of the album, so you may already have met one.

The Next Three Places to Go

Voices Like Rain. This is her first live album, recorded on her 2019 European tour. It features layered harmonies, acoustic and electric guitars, hand percussion and Celtic harp. If Slánú shows you the songwriter, this shows you the band on stage.

Haseya (2016). Produced by Maneesh de Moor, with guests including Trevor Hall and Peia. The title is the Diné phrase for "she rises." It sits between her early mantra work and her later folk-leaning writing, so it makes a good bridge.

Sacred Waters (2013). Go back to the beginning. This album holds music for Kundalini Yoga meditations, and it is built around mantra. If you want to know where she started, this is the place. If you want to follow the mantra thread further, At The Temple Door (2014) comes next, with Todd Boston's guitar and harmonies from Snatam Kaur.

What to Expect on a First Encounter

Expect a gentle, spacious sound rather than a driving one. Her music moves from traditional Irish folk toward mystical, meditative soundscapes, and her band draws on musicians from Spain, Ireland and the United States. On Slánú, Spanish titles like "Viento" and "Para Sanar" sit beside English ones, and the album title is itself Irish.

The songs lean on story. Folklore, dreams and myth run through many of them, so listen for imagery as much as melody. The earlier records are more explicitly mantra-based. The recent ones sit closer to folk songwriting.

Common Beginner Misunderstandings

"It's all chanting." Her first two albums were built around mantra, but her catalogue has moved well beyond that. Starting at 2013 and expecting the same sound throughout will mislead you.

"It's background music." It works as background, but the lyrics and folklore reward attention. Give it one focused listen before you put it on while cooking.

"Ajeet and Ajeet Kaur are different artists." They are the same person. Her label, Spirit Voyage Records, lists her as Ajeet Kaur on its page for Darshan (2015). She now records and tours as Ajeet, so search both names if you hunt for older material.

"It's only a studio project." She tours widely and leads retreats. The live experience is part of the work.

When This Work Lands Hardest

The music suits moments when you need to slow down: after a hard stretch, during a transition, or when you are tired of noise. The titles on Slánú point there: "Soften," "Healing Song," "only tenderness between us," "only you know where peace is." It also suits people who already love Irish or folk traditions and want something quieter and more contemplative, and people who practise yoga or meditation and want music made with that in mind. Sacred Waters was created for Kundalini Yoga meditations, so it fits a practice directly.

A One-Week Starter Plan

Day 1: Play Slánú straight through, evening, no multitasking.

Day 2: Replay "Dreaming," "Soften" and "Heartbeat." Notice which pulls you most.

Day 3: Listen to Voices Like Rain and pay attention to the harp and the layered harmonies.

Day 4: Play Haseya. Read the story behind the title, "she rises," as you listen.

Day 5: Move to Sacred Waters. Use it as a quiet sit, even ten minutes.

Day 6: Listen to At The Temple Door and hear how the mantras and songs interweave with Snatam Kaur's harmonies.

Day 7: Return to Slánú, then check the tour page at ajeetmusic.com. She is part of Oprah Winfrey's AHA at Sphere in Las Vegas in April 2027, and has concerts listed for May 2027 in cities including Amsterdam, London and Zurich. If you want to go deeper, her Dreaming Retreat is a five-day gathering at Dromgarriff in County Cork, with daily yoga and meditation, songs and stories.
