“I tell our runners to divide the race into thirds. Run the first part with your head, the middle part with your personality, and the last part with your heart.”

A Practice Begun in Adolescence

Giovanni Dienstmann is a meditation teacher, self-mastery coach, and author whose work sits at the meeting point of wisdom, peace, and empowerment. His hometown is not documented in the available record, and the details of his family and childhood are largely absent from public biography. What is clear is how his story with meditation began: at fifteen, after what he has described as a restless adolescence, he found the practice that would organize the rest of his life.

That discovery was not a passing curiosity. Dienstmann has practiced daily since March 21st, 2000, a streak that has accumulated more than 12,000 hours on the cushion. Few teachers can point to such a specific starting date, and the precision itself says something about his temperament: a person drawn to rigor, to measurement, and to showing up regardless of mood.

The Turning Point

The pivot in Dienstmann's story is less a single dramatic event than the decision to take a teenage discovery seriously and follow it all the way down. Rather than settle into one method, he explored widely. By his own account, he has tried more than 70 meditation techniques and studied more than 300 books on the subject. He spent ten weeks training in a monastery in France, and he was formally initiated into four distinct traditions: Zen, Advaita, Raja Yoga, and Mantra.

That breadth shaped what he came to seek, and what he came to teach. He describes his lifelong aim as "empowered peace," a calm that is full of energy, dynamism, and focus. It is a deliberate counterweight to the popular image of meditation as mere relaxation or retreat from the world. For Dienstmann, meditation is about empowerment as much as acceptance.

The Higher Mind Method

His central contribution is the Higher Mind Method, an awareness-based approach to self-development that draws on mindfulness, wisdom traditions, personal development, and psychology. The method reflects the long apprenticeship behind it: rather than presenting one lineage as complete, it synthesizes what has proven useful across several, and pairs contemplative insight with practical tools for daily life.

He shares the method through his books, his blog, and an app. The throughline across them is a conviction that inner stillness and outer effectiveness are not opposed, and that the same trained awareness that quiets the mind can also help a person act with more clarity and courage.

Major Works and Projects

Dienstmann's public presence began with LiveAndDare.com, a blog that for years ranked among the five most-visited meditation blogs. It established him as a clear, trustworthy explainer in a crowded field.

His best-known book is Practical Meditation: A Simple Step-by-Step Guide, published in 2018 and popularly called "The Meditation Bible." It has been translated into several languages, with sources citing six or seven. The book is aimed at helping readers build a sustainable practice, drawing on his experience across many techniques.

He is also the author of Mindful Self-Discipline, which reflects the other major strand of his work: the practical question of how people follow through on what matters to them. Beyond books, he has created meditation and wellbeing programs in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, and has consulted for award-winning meditation apps.

His credentials are those of a practitioner who sought formal grounding. He is a certified meditation teacher with the Meditation Association of Australia, completed Level 1 yoga and meditation teacher training with the Satyananda School of Yoga, and has taught mindfulness in a master's program at Torrens University in Australia.

The Current Chapter

Today much of Dienstmann's work is centered on coaching through HigherMind.com. Since 2014, he has worked with executives, entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, traders, and professional athletes on the obstacles that tend to undermine capable people: distraction, procrastination, fear, anxiety, and self-doubt. These are not exotic spiritual problems. They are the ordinary friction of ambitious lives, and his approach treats them as trainable through awareness and discipline.

His audio and digital presence continues alongside this work. His Spotify following, at roughly 31,700 followers, is modest by the standards of mainstream music but meaningful for a teacher whose guided practices are meant to be used privately, repeatedly, and over time.

Cultural Significance

Dienstmann matters because of where he stands in the modern meditation landscape. Mindfulness has become widely popular, often in simplified or commercial forms. He represents a more rooted alternative: a teacher with decades of daily practice, formal initiation in multiple traditions, and a willingness to translate that depth into plain, structured instruction.

His reach is notably broad. Translation has carried his books across languages, and his programs in four languages extend that further. His coaching clientele, from athletes to traders to artists, suggests an audience that is less interested in meditation as lifestyle than as performance of the inner kind: steadiness under pressure, freedom from self-doubt, and the ability to do the work one has chosen.

Perhaps his most useful contribution is the reframing at the heart of "empowered peace." By insisting that calm and drive can coexist, he offers a model of contemplative life that is neither withdrawn nor frantic. For readers who have felt that meditation was either too passive or too vague, his work provides an on-ramp that is disciplined, practical, and grounded in a long personal commitment.

Legacy in Progress

Dienstmann's story is still being written, and it would be premature to define his legacy too firmly. But the outline is already visible: a teenager who found a practice and never put it down, who studied it with unusual thoroughness, and who has spent his career making that knowledge accessible. In a field often marked by trends, his steadiness, measured in years and hours, is its own kind of argument for what meditation can offer.
