Packet Pickup
Pre-race event where runners collect their bib, timing chip, and swag bag — usually held at the race expo.
Understanding Packet Pickup
Packet pickup (or bib pickup) is the pre-race event where registered runners collect their race bib, timing chip, and swag bag. It's typically held 1–2 days before the race at the race expo venue. Most races do NOT allow race-morning bib pickup — you must get your packet in advance.
For major races, packet pickup is held at a large expo with vendor booths, gear sales, guest speakers, and sponsor activations. It's part of the race experience — browsing new gear, attending training talks, and absorbing the pre-race energy. Budget 30–60 minutes for a major race expo.
You'll need to bring photo ID and your registration confirmation. Most races also require you to sign a waiver. Some allow a friend or family member to pick up your bib with a signed authorization form. Pin your bib to your race-day outfit the night before — four pins, one on each corner, front of your shirt.

Frequently Asked Questions About Packet Pickup
Many races allow proxy pickup with: (1) a signed authorization form (usually downloadable from the race website), (2) a copy of your ID, and (3) your confirmation email. Check the race's specific policy — some major races require in-person pickup with ID.
Some races have limited race-morning pickup, but many don't. If you miss expo hours entirely, contact the race organizer immediately — they may have a solution. For destination races, plan travel to arrive well before expo hours close.
