About This Event

Description

Common Questions

FAQs

This is the fourth and last retreat in Ani Champa Tashi's series on the twelve links of dependent origination. It covers the 10th to 12th links: becoming, birth, and aging and death. It closes the cycle by explaining how one life ends and another begins, which the organizer calls 'another turn of the carousel'.
The organizer says no particular prerequisites are required, and that the retreat suits both people new to the Dharma and those already familiar with these topics. It is described as especially useful for those with a good meditation practice and for people returning to the discipline. You are asked to commit to every session of the retreat.
The explanations and meditations are meant to help participants reflect on how rebirth takes place, especially the process of dissolution at the time of death. The framing is that living well, by reducing afflictions and keeping a joyful mind, prepares one for a good death. The program also quotes verse 41 of chapter 6 of Shantideva's Bodhisattvacharyavatara on how only one's merit protects at death.
The retreat combines seated meditation sessions, walking meditation, and various explanations by Ani Tashi. In the afternoon there is a session devoted to questions. The times of the individual sessions are announced at the Institute rather than published in advance.
