About This Event

Description

Into the Quiet is a one-day silent meditation retreat at Meditation Mount in Ojai, California, for anyone who wants to slow down and spend a day in sustained silence. It is led by Jodie Skalla, a local guide with a Master's degree in Spiritual Psychology. The day combines group creative meditation, quiet reflection, optional journaling and unhurried time on the grounds.

What to Expect

The gate opens at 9:30 AM so people can arrive quietly and spend a little time with the land before the day begins. At 10:00 AM the retreat opens with a welcoming circle and orientation, followed by a group creative meditation to center the collective energy. The retreat concludes at 3:00 PM.

Most of the day is given to silence. Morning sanctuary time lets you explore the grounds and find a spot to sit, journal or meditate on your own. Silent reflection comes with optional journal prompts for those who want them. Midday brings a quiet nourishment break, with lunch eaten in silence. Afternoon sanctuary time follows, deepening into personal practice and collective silence. The day ends with a closing meditation circle and intention setting.

The invitation is to observe your experience without judgment, build a sense of presence, and notice the clarity that tends to arrive when the day is quiet. All movement is at your own pace, and the atmosphere is meant to be gentle and restorative.

About Jodie Skalla

Jodie Skalla lives in Ojai and has explored spiritual practice for most of her life. After building a career in the film industry, she returned to her longtime interests in psychology, spirituality and creativity, and earned a Master's degree in Spiritual Psychology. She is also a dancer, writer, painter and dedicated meditator. She is known for her gift for building community and for holding a safe, welcoming space where people can go inward together.

The Setting

The retreat takes place at Meditation Mount, on a hillside property above Ojai. The grounds are part of the experience: you are free to wander and find your own place for stillness. Because the day includes sitting, walking and gentle exploring, sturdy walking or hiking shoes are recommended. To preserve the space, pets, picnics and alcohol are not permitted. Transportation to the Mount is not provided.

Before You Go

This retreat is open to all levels, and no prior meditation experience is stated as required. Please arrive and be present by 10:00 AM. The retreat does not allow late entry once it begins, so that the group's quiet can stay undisturbed.

Yoga mats, chairs and blankets are provided, along with tea, water and light snacks throughout the day. Please bring:

- Your own lunch
- A journal and something to write with
- Comfortable clothing and sturdy walking shoes
- Optional extras, such as a meditation cushion, your own mat or a personal blanket
