Amate Camp — 62520 Tepoztlán, Mexico

Eco-cabin retreat venue at the foot of the Tepoztlán mountains, Mexico

Amate Camp sits at the foot of the Tepoztlán mountains in Morelos, about an hour and a half from Mexico City. Its own pages describe the town as the birthplace of Quetzalcóatl and a home to ancient traditions. The camp works as a retreat centre in the plainest sense: a facilitator rents the whole property, and only that group has access for the chosen dates. The practice spaces are each given a particular job. The yoga shala is a sunrise-facing wooden hall with mountain views, and it holds 40 people. The deck is an open tropical floor kept for sunset rituals and lunar practices. The tree house is a small acoustic room set aside for healing circles and inner work. Outside are gardens of palms, wildflowers and fruit trees, a natural pool, and a traditional adobe temazcal beside a fire circle. Guests sleep in twelve cabins built from bamboo, earth, palm and wood, with room for up to 33 and 14 bathrooms between them. They range from the Tipi Tribu cabins and a bunk-bed Tipi Dorm to the Safari cabins, the Safari Bali and four Lofts with terraces and panoramic views. Meals come from a 100% vegan kitchen working with local, organic, seasonal produce, some of it from the camp's own gardens. The menu leans Mexican-Italian: superfood bowls, wood-oven pizzas, coconut curry, quinoa burritos. What happens there is mostly led by visiting facilitators. The pages list cacao and temazcal ceremonies, yoga in Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Yin and Kundalini styles, pranayama, sound baths with gong, crystal and Tibetan bowls, and kirtan circles rooted in Bhakti Yoga. Workshops include voice activation, Wim Hof-method ice baths and vegan cooking. Private sessions cover massage, tuning-fork sound healing and oracle readings. The calendar is full into 2027, with a New Years Retreat running December 30 to January 2.
