About This Event

Description

Voice of the Soul: Finding Harmony Within is a kirtan concert at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, led by the kirtan artist Girish. It suits anyone drawn to chanting, devotional music and shared singing, whether kirtan is already part of your practice or you are curious to try it. The concert takes its theme from the idea that music and mantra can be a path toward joy, healing and freedom, found by giving voice to what lives within us.

What to Expect

Kirtan is call-and-response chanting: the leader sings a phrase and the room answers. In Girish's gatherings the group's response becomes the heartbeat of the practice. He leads this style of chanting with live music, and his work often centers on a Sacred Choir where every voice is welcome. No musical experience is needed, and the invitation is simply to sing along and listen.

About Girish

Girish is a kirtan artist who leads call-and-response chanting, live music and workshops. He plays live music alongside yoga classes and leads chant workshops, including multi-day chant camps. He also guides retreats built around chant, rhythm, breath and shared singing, and for people who want to go deeper, these offer simple guidance on harmonium, guitar, drums and keyboard.

His work reaches into sound healing as well. He creates Attuned Soundscapes, customized healing soundscapes tuned to a person's own singing bowls. His own description of his path is that music and mantra can lead to the joy, healing and freedom that come from giving voice to what lives within us.

The Setting

The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat on Paradise Island is a place for yoga, meditation, chanting and devotional practice. Its calendar is full of programs, from weekend workshops to immersive courses and quiet retreats, so a kirtan concert here sits within a community that already treats chanting as part of daily spiritual life. Guests can reserve a stay at the retreat to be part of the program.

Before You Go

Come as you are. Kirtan asks for openness more than skill, and in Girish's gatherings no musical background is required. Your voice, however it sounds, is part of the music.

Common Questions

FAQs

Girish leads call-and-response chanting, where he sings a phrase and the group sings it back. His site frames music and mantra as a path to joy, healing and freedom through giving voice to what lives within us. Known for Sanskrit mantra, devotional music and tabla, he builds the group's response into the heartbeat of the practice.
No. Girish's gatherings centre on a Sacred Choir where every voice is welcome, and no musical experience is needed. Because the format is call-and-response, you follow along by listening and repeating.
Girish's retreats offer simple guidance on harmonium, guitar, drums and keyboard for those who want to go deeper. This is described for his retreats in general, so check with the ashram whether instrument guidance is part of this particular event.
He plays live music alongside yoga classes, leads chant workshops including multi-day chant camps, and guides retreats built around chant, rhythm, breath and shared singing. If this event resonates, those longer formats are where he goes deeper into the same practice.
